Dries Van Noten Spring 2011

Dries Van Noten's Spring 2011 collection was mere beauty flowing at the seams.  The looks were day and nighttime with an easy accessibility for the stylish woman who wants a sense of comfort.  He was constant in his colour choices, and the palette from his earlier collection continued with bright pollenesque yellows, and plum purples on white, and eggplant backgrounds.  Accents of small glitz were also prevalent, yet, not as much as the beautifully painted floral prints.

The Deep Cuts

Mark Fast's showed an edgy cut-out Spring 2011 collection for London Fashion Week.  Yes, this is the same designer who used plus-sized models of 14 and even size 16 on the runway in his past Fashion week show --- we love that! Fast's unconventional ways are what sets him apart from many; he continued his signature of form fitting and unique aesthetics throughout the line.  The body hugging looks included vibrant hues, perforated detailing, paired with fringe materials and platforms that emanated a runway showgirl feeling in a Ready-To-Wear way.  Some of these looks were those you could definitely see a few highly confident celebs wearing, of course!

A few trends for now, New product for later

Now, that your eyes have stopped jumping from viewing infinite runway shows, you know that for next season we will see a more defined eyebrow, the clean and kissable, or coral and rouge lips, and quite possibly a nostalgic hair-do on many women. Kiss the Earth, Fashion

Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte never seem to disappoint me when showcasing their collections, especially from an artistic perspective.  For the Spring 2011 collection, the dynamic-duo gave the crowd an expected artful fashion show.  The collection evoked cultured spirits of a warrior princess and captured her precisely as she’d appear (strutting the runway) in present day.  


There were touches of gold throughout the line giving you a feeling of royal ease in daylight, and confidence as you kept your eyes wide open with anticipation for the next exhibit. And all done with hopes that you would not miss anything from a slight blink.  


The Mulleavy sisters definitely know what they’re doing, and  in the proper dosage. For example, the juxtaposition of diverse fabric-overlapping layers, certain slits and how far out, say, a waistband even should be—creating statues of wearable art.  


There were many pieces to love from this collection.  Though, my favourites were the brown leather embossed jacket paired with a turtleneck, and the almost Roman Centurion-esque dresses with a mosaic-scaly texture, which was a hybrid of a cocktail dress and modern garb for daily battle.  Some other ensembles included peplums, wood printed motifs and cut-out treatments that were still feminine and also wearable.

Elise Øverland Spring 2011

Is it me or does this season's models on the runway seem to be a tad mediocre.  Perhaps, most of the lovelies are only gracing the stages of selected designer's, yes? 

Here's the latest from Elise Øverland's Spring RTW 2011 collection, which consisted of vivid hues in electrified blues, chartreuse, and black & white combos.  These colours of course, were eye-catching but, to me the overall collection didn't seem amazing.  Øverland managed to bring back the lantern sleeve in solid frocks, and showcased colour blocked ensembles, and mod silhouettes reminiscent of the 60's.  Oh, did I mention the edgy violinist gracing the runway, wearing a tiered skirt and cobalt top? I'm sure that it all makes sense to those of us who actually attended.--- The A-list crowd seemed pleased, I think!
