FBFF: Excess Baggage? No, Just Summer Packing...
3.6.11
For this week's Fashion Beauty Friend Friday Katy of Modly Chic asked us about our summer holiday travelling, and what we pack on such an occasion, etc. Here's a few things that I do:
1. When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra?
1. When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra?
If you pack right, then you pack light! This is a phrase that's continuously echoed to myself, one that my papa used to always tell me when he taught me how to pack at an early age... Of course, there are times when you may be unable to pack light. However, for me there really is no other way. I usually do not check a bag ... ever! It has to be under extreme circumstances where you’ll find me checking baggage. I tend to only do 10-15 day travelling at a time, but have developed and modified a system that works for me for all travelling..
2. What are your must packs? Allergy medicine. I have major allergies and it's not fun! Also, other "must packs" this season are my wedges and sun dresses. This is in addition to packing hand sanitizer, batteries, chargers, eye drops, books, and loads of music, amongst other essentials. I also keep what I call an emergency bag and go-to travelling pack! See more here!
3.What are you happy to leave behind? I’m happy to leave behind large bottles of products that I may use daily, instead I carry a group of small plastic bottles with necessities and other items that are small or that possibly may be acquired when I arrive at my destination. Consolidation is key for me and lightweight is ideal!
For summer travelling (not work related) I usually do not take mobile messages. I have minimal contact which allows me to fully enjoy my quality time. The people who need to know how to reach me in an emergency are able to.

4. Any packing secrets that help you get everything into one suitcase? I love purchasing things just as any fashionista, but I try to keep it to a minimum. If I’m going to a place where I know I will definitely shop then I'll also put aside time to ship large items back to my destination, i.e., gifts, etc. Fortunately, it works for me because I still don’t have to wait for baggage claim (I've also had my bag lost before and it's not a good feeling). For leisure travelling I try to save space by packing items that I can fill in small containers, as stated above. See more archives here!
5. Beach reading… what are you taking with you to read in the sand? For starters, I constantly carry my sketchbook and pencils. Aside from that I usually carry one good book for the flight (probably finish Deep Down True) and purchase a few magazines throughout the trip.
